Journal of Criminal Law and Penal Studies is a quarterly scientific journal founded in 1997 in Krakow, Poland, dedicated to the issues of substantive criminal law, criminal trial, executive law and criminology, theory and philosophy of criminal law, as well as problems from the borderline between criminal law and other social sciences. We combine the ideas of the highest standards of research with a real impact on the creation, interpretation and application of criminal law. We nurture the best scientific traditions of the Cracow School of Criminal Law.

Announcements

Digital identification of papers and indexing in the Crossref database

All new papers published in the Journal of Criminal Law and Penal Studies are assigned a digital identifier DOI. The Krakow Institute of Criminal Law Foundation has also become a partner of the Crossref system, thanks to which all works published in the Journal are linked to the international system of citation information exchange. We encourage you to publish valuable works in our Journal and to cite the DOI identifiers in the bibliography of your own papers.

Grant Funding for Online Edition of Our Journal (2025-2026)

We're excited to announce that the online edition of the Journal of Criminal Law and Penal Studies for 2025-2026 has received funding grant comes from the Government Program for Civil Society Orgnizations Development for 2018-2030 (PROO), Priority 4. This funding supports the project "CRIMTANK - Criminal Law Think Tank: Legislation, Interpretation, Future," under agreement number 17/PROO/4/2025.

New Iteration of the Journal of Criminal Law and Penal Studies

We are pleased to announce the launch of the new website of the Journal of Criminal Law and Penal Studies. Starting in 2025, individual issues of the Journal will be published online every three months, with a printed volume issued once a year. We hope that this new chapter in the Journal's operation will facilitate the sharing of valuable academic research on criminal law. We invite you to read and submit manuscripts for publication.
